Meet Dave
Committed to Working Families.
Committed to Community.

My Commitment to You
My wife and I have had the good fortune to own a home in a wonderful community, to send our kids to local schools, and to enjoy the fantastic parks and open spaces that are within minutes of where we live.
I am running because we need strong leadership that supports Colorado's working families so everyone has these opportunities. I am committed to fighting for stronger public schools, better wages and opportunities that foster real financial stability, and protect our open spaces and environment.

As a lawyer, I strive to listen carefully, research the issues, look for areas of common ground, and work hard to accomplish my client's goals. I do the same when I serve our community as a City Councilor.

I make the same commitment to you. I don't claim to have all of the answers, but I promise to listen, make certain I understand our community's perspective on issues before the legislature, research the issues, look for common ground with legislators who may have different views, and work hard to advance our needs in House District 28. I will work to get things done for our community and our neighbors.
Why I'm Running
We had a few rules growing up. Mostly, they involved treating people with respect -- treating others how we would want to be treated.
Another rule was about a drawer; the bottom drawer of a small dresser in the living room. The rule was simple: never open that drawer.
Inside the drawer were rolls of coins: pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. These rolls of coins were the way my parents planned to pay the rent if my dad were to lose his job or for emergencies.

I never opened that drawer and I don't remember my parents ever having to open the drawer to pay the rent. We were fortunate. My sister and I did not go without, and my parents were able to give us opportunities to succeed.

Not all of our working families are so fortunate, and others go through life with the constant worry that they are one step away from losing the roof over their head. It's long past the days when families could save change to pay the rent. Still, it should be easier.

I am running for the State House to fight for working families, seniors, and everyone in our community. I want to serve so that everyone has an opportunity to live in dignified housing in safe communities; to have real health benefits; to get paid a fair wage; to receive an education and training; to protect our open spaces, and to make sure that government works for all of us -- not just for those with power and means.

A History of Service
CITY OF LAKEWOOD CITY COUNCIL
I have the great privilege of working for my constituents in Lakewood to create opportunities for everyone. I’ve helped support workers and small businesses, fought to protect our parks and open spaces, worked to increase housing opportunities for everyone, increased the capacity to protect our most vulnerable, and implemented even more programs to make the city more climate friendly and sustainable.

LAKEWOOD ADVISORY COMMISSION
I served on the Lakewood Advisory Commission for six years before the election to City Council. We researched, solicited and received community feedback, prepared information and recommendations on a number of topics including: developing a tool for the city to prioritize its infrastructure spending in sidewalks and trails; recommending potential locations for more dog parks; encouraged the city to foster programs that pair kids with seniors; provided the city with strategies to improve access to sustainable, fresh food; and recommended further veteran's outreach efforts and ways to honor those who have served.

40 WEST ARTS DISTRICT
40 West Arts, is a non-profit, state-certified creative district working to revitalize the economy and the community fabric of the historic West Colfax corridor through arts and culture. I serve on the Board of Directors to guide its vision and I actively volunteer at its events.

JEFFERSON COUNTY CULTURAL COMMISSION
I serve on the Board which makes recommendations to Jefferson County on how to distribute more than two million dollars of Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) funds to arts organizations in Jefferson County.

MI CASA RESOURCE CENTER
Small business needs our support. I volunteer in providing legal advice for entrepreneurs and partnered with a legal organization to create a series of intellectual property tools critical for new and established businesses.

COLORADO BUSINESS COMMITTEE FOR THE ARTS
I represent artists and art organizations for free and the CBCA honored me with the Volunteer Attorney Impact Award as an outstanding attorney who has provided free legal services to Colorado creatives.
