Education
I am committed to increasing funding for our public elementary and high schools because education is the key to self-sufficiency and advancement. Further, our children deserve all we can provide for them to be the next generation to take on the challenges we face.
I also recognize that no one size fits all after high school. We must expand options including more support for community college degrees, apprenticeships, and opportunities to learn a trade. Colorado needs more people qualified to earn high-paying union jobs. Electricians, plumbers, carpenters, pipe fitters, communications workers, and more are desperately needed. I want to go to the State House to support the workers we need and provide them with fair wages.
At the same time, I fully support our teachers. My grandparents were teachers and one of my daughters is now a high school teacher so I understand the sacrifices they make to inspire and teach our kids.
Healthcare & Reproductive Freedom
A family member's trip to the emergency room for needed care resulted in outrageous bills -- even with health insurance. Our healthcare is failing us. We struggle to pay soaring health care costs with unfair limits on insurance coverage and arbitrary denials of coverage and at the same time, we are denied the basic right to "shop around" and compare what one healthcare provider will charge for routine procedures versus what another provider will charge. Similarly, healthcare providers struggle with confusing and burdensome regulations that interfere with patient care. As Washington slashes healthcare relied on by working families, Colorado will need to step up.

No one should be able to overrule a woman making her own healthcare decisions. I will passionately defend a woman's right to do so and will not compromise on this position. I will actively oppose any legislation that limits the rights of people to govern their bodies and their health.
Protecting Our Open Spaces & Environment
One thing all of us can agree on: we love our open spaces and nature. But state budget pressures and Washington's slashing of sensible funding put our open spaces at risk. Colorado will need to take the lead in holding companies who pollute our air, water, and land accountable.

Climate change is threatening not only our environment, but also our way of life. Colorado can and should lead the way by incorporating sustainable building practices in all of its projects while partnering with municipalities to incentivize them to do the same. We also need to get serious about addressing out of control insurance costs for protecting our homes and small businesses.

I will also fight to build a green economy that creates high-paying jobs in the renewable energy sector.
